- Starts January 11th
- 6 weeks
Meet your instructor
Patrick Rausch
Biography: Born in 1948 in West Palm Beach, Florida, Patrick grew up with tropical and ocean surroundings. Numerous trips since childhood to the Florida Keys and years of diving and sailing along with having a home in the Ocala National Forest for a number of years has had a strong and lasting influence on the subjects Patrick chooses to paint. From beautiful cloud formations at sunset to a quaint cottage in the Keys, to tranquil backcountry landscapes, to soothing seascapes, he finds and captures a feeling that relates to the beauty around us. A traditional approach to painting is used that involves a number of painting layers and also a number of glazing layers which create texture, depth, and illumination.
Philosophy and instruction: I have been painting and drawing most of my life and continue to get a thrill every time I paint. In addition, I get a great deal of satisfaction sharing with others what others have shared with me. Painting and drawing are very teachable and in time, creativity will follow and flow.

All levels, oil or acrylic. You can bring a photo or paint along with Patrick who will answer questions and help with problems. Areas covered will be composition, color mixing, drawing/transferring reference photo, and basic brush techniques.
Welcome to “Painting with Patrick”. These painting sessions are open to beginners and also to those that have been painting for some time that would like to go to the next level.
I use oil paints for my demonstration paintings as well as my studio paintings, but feel free to use acrylic paints if you prefer them.
During the first class, I will begin a new painting in front of the class. This will include a demonstration showing how to begin a painting. Also discussed will be elements that make a painting more pleasing to the eye (composition) , the mixing of colors, drawing (how to transfer your image to the canvas) and basic brush technique. Each additional class over the six-week period will begin with a painting demonstration where I will take the painting started the first week to the next level. The remainder of the class time will be spent painting, where I will be available to answer questions and help with problems. The subject matter of the paintings I demonstrate vary from month to month but include Florida landscapes, seascapes, island cottages, tropical foliage, nautical settings and still life.
The art students can bring in a photo that they would like to paint, a painting already started, or they can paint the same painting along with the instructor as I complete the painting over the six week period.

Bob Stinziano
I have been drawing all my life. I spent some time painting with an airbrush, but returned to pencil. I find pencil art is the purest form of art. Working with pencil allows me better control than any kind of brush.
After retiring and moving to Florida with my wife I started concentrating on portrait drawing, I find them most challenging. In the past few years I have added color pencil to my artwork. I work with graphite and color pencil, separately and combined.
Drawing is truly a great way to escape from day to day life. It’s easy to carry a pencil and paper with you wherever you go, so you can always be drawing.

Bring your sketchbook, pencil and reference photos and we’ll discuss the best composition, what to include, what to leave out, and where the perspective lines go. Learn to incorporate realistic-looking people in your landscapes. Information that every artists needs to know!
For this class I will give hands-on demos and explanations of the principles of composition, like:
-what to include from your scene/reference photo
-what to edit out or move around, and why
-how to correctly distribute your darks and lights for maximum impact
-how to compose the scene on your canvas/paper
-where to place your elements
Show the ins and outs of perspective and how to incorporate people in your scene, at the correct size!
I will do all demos on projects from you, the students. The more ideas and reference photos you bring, the better. We will also go outside for one or two sessions and explore the perspective and composition on site (daytime classes only).
I illustrate these principles on YOUR projects and on as many of them as possible, so you get a lot of samples and ideas. We will have time to do one or two finished paintings if you wish, or you can get many starters as to composition and correct drawing to help you finish them at home.
We will do a lot of sketching. If you intend to paint an actual project after we discussed the elements of perspective and composition, bring your usual painting items.
The classes don’t really build on one another, so you won’t miss anything critical if you are absent from one class.

Getting started in your new medium? Let Ruth help you navigate through the basics such as materials, mediums, support and varnishes. You will paint your first oils using your new knowledge.
Join me for an exciting course into the world of oil painting!
I will guide you through the main principles of oil painting which will provide a good basis for you to embark on your journey after class has ended. I am basing this 6-week course on classic intensive atelier training, but reducing it to a few main principles and ideas.
We are going to learn about color mixing and color theory, color temperature and selecting the correct colors for maximum effectiveness of your painting. You’ll also learn how to prepare your canvas the correct and efficient way, and how to make good decisions on your composition and design of your artwork. The limited palette will be discussed and used throughout.
We will then paint a simple still life and a simple landscape. Then you’ll spend the last 2 weeks on your own painting where I’ll give you individual advice and we will all learn from each others’ ideas, mistakes and successes.

Betty Parker
Painting and manipulating paper then composing a picture gives me a feeling of being totally creative. It is a dimension above the Commercial Art which I studied, and the Realism courses I took, when learning to master oil, watercolor and acrylics. It stirs up an innate drive to create using a tactile technique. My pictures reflect personal messages, moods and stored thoughts which I wish to share with the viewer. I find collaging and de `collaging in this minimalistic, non-representational style very exciting and fulfilling.
I was born in the central part of Virginia near Gordonsville. After high school, and Washington SchooI of Art, I moved to Richmond, VA, and accepted a job with State Farm Insurance which transferred me to Daytona Bch. Six months after meeting James Parker, who had recently transferred from Miami with Florida Power and Light we were married. We had three children. Shortly after our second child was born, Daytona Beach Junior College became accredited. I enrolled and subsequently received an AA, then transferred to the University of Central Florida where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. During the period of seeking a bachelor’s degree, I. held a full time paid position with the American Lung Association (ALA). Eventually, the position of Regional Director was offered to me, which I accepted. After a 19 year career with The ALA, I retired and resumed art activates. Participating in outdoor art shows for ten years, gave me the outlet to display my artwork. Many pieces received judge’s awards and were bought by collectors. Other venues for displaying and selling the work have been in Art Galleries, Museums and Art Leagues in Daytona Beach, St. Augustine and other cities in the United States. Currently, I teach drawing at The Artists’ Workshop, Inc. in New Smyrna Beach, FL.; present demonstrations and judge art exhibits.

Artist Statement
I want my work to be like a good poem. It should be something a visitor can return to repeatedly, finding fresh ideas & meanings each time. The way I work is by layering images over images until surprising new meanings begin to surface, meanings that are suggestions to the viewer’s own psyche, a magical place where the work and the viewer engage.
After 30 years of collaging & painting, I now combine these techniques and make extensive use of the digital capabilities now available. With digital imaging I can modify/recolor/resize my own library of imagery to meet my vision. I use these elements to create the “bones” or structure of the painting. Then I extensively paint, repaint, and recolor the work to create a unified plastic surface as does the ”traditional” painter. I combine whatever materials or techniques that will further my vision including but not limited to air brush, digital image manipulation, gold leaf, fabric imagery and my own hand drawn/painted_ images. I usually begin with an airbrushed wood panel because I like the way the grain of the wood shows through the color. I then begin to layer my images to develop the underlying structure of the work. As I proceed, I try to avoid preconceiving the end result of the work, I let the work “talk” to me and let it suggest what it needs in the way the Abstract expressionists or the Asian sumi painters would do. At this point I treat the surface as a traditional painting; re-coloring elements, adjusting colors and tonalities, and adding painted elements until I reach a unified plastic surface in which design, surface and vision become inseparable. In the end the viewer should not be able to focus on technique but on suggested meanings embedded in the work. I feel the body of work I am now producing I have been able to internalize what I have learned about controlling the surface from the likes of Cezanne, Matisse, DeKooning, and Albers, and about design and pattern from Japanese artists particularly the fabric, kimono and garden designers.

Learn the ease of making colored pencil look like a painting with Pat Lentine. Work at your own level of skill and interest. You may pay for 4 weeks, but can span this over a 8-week period to accommodate your schedule.
Learn the ease of making colored pencil look like a painting. Beginner to advanced students are welcome. Each student will work at his or her own level of skill and interest. Students new to colored pencil or just new to art will be provided with structured activities to help develop basic skills, and theory. Students that have been working in colored pencil for a while will work on refining techniques and be introduced to new ones while exploring new mediums and surfaces.
The first class we will do a color wheel in colored pencil to get use to pencil technique and pencil colors. We will then do a small project together learning how to develop value by layering. After that, while I will always have a supply of projects to do, each student is encouraged to bring projects that are of interest to them. As the classes continue, we will work on technique, value, color, and theory while adding other techniques and skills.
This class will be a lot of fun. Pencils are a great medium. They are so portable and there is no mess or clean up. You do not need to carve out a lot of time. They can be picked up for 5 minutes or 5 hours.
If you would like to work in Pastel pencils, please contact me for a list of supplies.

Looking at the work of other artists or the masters does not mean one should draw in their style. It does help to see what has been done before and how they worked out a method of rendering the subject.

Beau Wild
A native Floridian, Beau Wild was educated in occupational therapy at Tufts University and in painting at the School of The Museum of Fine Arts, both in Boston. Dual roles as therapist and painter spanned decades and each enhanced the success of the other. She returned to her childhood hometown of Daytona Beach in 1983 after 22 years in New England. Since then, Wild has shown her work in nationwide art festivals, competitions and museums including the Museum of Florida Art, Florida Museum for Women Artists, Melbourne’s Foosaner Art Museum, Ormond Memorial Art Museum, Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, St. Petersburg College, Coral Springs Museum of Art and Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry as well as in an international exhibition in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, UK.
Wild has won a variety of awards, including “Best In Show” in competitive exhibits and has participated in both solo and group exhibitions regionally and nationally. Today, Wild paints daily in her studio/gallery along Rose Bay in Port Orange, Florida.
Artist Statement
As early as I can remember I was an observer, a “people watcher”. Several questions intrigued me then and continue to intrigue me now – Why people do what they do? What motivates their actions and reactions? What make us all “tick”? Whether it is an elderly woman’s feeling of isolation, the outsider’s anxiety when courting a new friend, the unforgotten lives of those who have passed, these deeply empathic connections are sensitive glimpses. Most recently, I am compelled to address some our our most pressing and often most contentious social and political problems within the topic of women’s issues. Issues include domestic violence and a closer look into our indigenous women and girls who are disproportionately targets for hatred, violence, kidnapping and murder. Whether I create work in a non objective or figurative abstract format, these personal glimpses open a small window through which I can hopefully increase a clearer understanding of the issue and inspire change for the benefit of all of us.
