Meet your instructor
Patrick Rausch
Patrick was born in West Palm Beach, Florida when it still had a small town flavor surrounded by tropical and ocean settings. Numerous visits since childhood to the Florida Keys and years of diving and sailing the Florida coast and Bahamas along with having a home in the Ocala National Forest have had a strong and lasting influence on the subjects he chooses to paint.
From beautiful cloud formations at sunset, to a quaint cottage in the Keys, to tranquil back country landscapes, to soothing seascapes, he captures a feeling that relates to the beauty around us which is often missed in the fast paced world we live in.
His art journey began in childhood with an irresistible desire to draw. This was followed by color pencil work which eventually led to oil paints. The use of a limited palette of six colors helps create more unity within his paintings. By painting subjects he is familiar with and that strike an inner emotion , he feels he can be more honest with his work.
Patrick has been sharing with others what others have shared with him and teaching those with desire to paint for over 10 years. He currently lives in New Smyrna Beach and teaches classes at The Artist Workshop.

susiemeans6@gmail.com
Let’s play with clay! A fun way to release stress. Learn how to sculpt, coil, repair, and – most important of all – glaze. We’ll be exploring stains as well as glazes. Create your own masterpiece to display or sell in our gallery or just give it to a friend as a gift.
Composition and Perspective with Ruth Squitieri
Learn how to compose a painting! What do we leave out, what do we move around, what looks the best? If your big shapes work in a thought-out composition, the rest is easy and you’ll have more fun slinging paint around! We will touch on composition, the value of values (!), the importance of spending a couple of minutes on thumbnails, and how to incorporate people into your scenery. We will also learn in a playful and informative way how perspective works. One point, 2 point, 3 point, and if time and interest is there, even fish-eye – the dreaded but fun 4 point perspective!
This class depends heavily on student questions and participation. Bring your half-finished artwork, any photos you want to use as a reference for a future painting, and all your questions! We will all learn from each other, so the more, the merrier!
Materials List: paper pad about 9×12 or 11×14, sketching paper is fine, nothing special. pencil, sharpie, eraser, ruler, reference photos, works in progress.
Meet your instructor
Ruth Squitieri
Ruth Squitieri was born and raised in a small town in Germany, before settling in Florida in her early 20s. She always had art in her life. While her family was very musical, she was the only one who always had a pencil or brush in her hand. After painting a lot in watercolor and acrylics, she discovered oils about 20 years ago. In 2008 she took her first plein air workshop and has been hooked to on-site painting ever since. Ruth currently includes quick pen and ink sketches in her repertoire, especially when traveling. She is now focusing on urban sketching with pen and ink washed over with fun splashes of watercolor in addition to doing portraits in both the classical manner and quick alla prima method in oils.
Ruth loves to share her talent and knowledge and has been doing demos at artists’ groups as well as during paintout/plein air festivals in the Central Florida area for many years. She is a sought-after instructor at the Artists Workshop in New Smyrna Beach, teaching principles of Composition and Perspective along with an intensive immersion into art for beginners, head and figure drawing, and pen and ink sketching.
Ruth believes that working from life allows you to put the most truthful statement onto paper, and also the most interesting. “The camera doesn’t capture all the light and details in the shadows, but puts everything in focus. That is not how we see the world.” To this point she studies the scene that’s in front of her and puts down what nature presents her with, carefully repositioning certain elements, eliminating others, but always focusing on the quality of light or fun details. For portrait painting Ruth uses photo references in addition to practicing the figure in life drawing sessions.

Drawing with Bob Stinziano
with Graphite and Color Pencil.
Meet your instructor
Bob Stinziano
I have been drawing all my life. I spent some time painting with an airbrush, but returned to pencil. I find pencil art is the purest form of art. Working with pencil allows me better control than any kind of brush.
After retiring and moving to Florida with my wife I started concentrating on portrait drawing, I find them most challenging. In the past few years I have added color pencil to my artwork. I work with graphite and color pencil, separately and combined.
Drawing is truly a great way to escape from day to day life. It’s easy to carry a pencil and paper with you wherever you go, so you can always be drawing.

Critique Class with Beau Wild
Most artists work in isolation without the advantage of receiving feedback on their work. Here is the opportunity to not only hear how your work is “seen and interrupted by the viewer”, how to create feeling and power through your images, experiment with challenges, but also how to paint intuitively while staying positive and focused on your passion to paint. And…to learn from the critiques of other artists’ work.
Meet your instructor
Beau Wild
A native Floridian, Beau Wild was educated in occupational therapy at Tufts University and in painting at the School of The Museum of Fine Arts, both in Boston. Dual roles as therapist and painter spanned decades and each enhanced the success of the other. She returned to her childhood hometown of Daytona Beach in 1983 after 22 years in New England. Since then, Wild has shown her work in nationwide art festivals, competitions and museums including the Museum of Florida Art, Florida Museum for Women Artists, Melbourne’s Foosaner Art Museum, Ormond Memorial Art Museum, Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, St. Petersburg College, Coral Springs Museum of Art and Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry as well as in an international exhibition in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, UK.
Wild has won a variety of awards, including “Best In Show” in competitive exhibits and has participated in both solo and group exhibitions regionally and nationally. Today, Wild paints daily in her studio/gallery along Rose Bay in Port Orange, Florida.
Artist Statement
As early as I can remember I was an observer, a “people watcher”. Several questions intrigued me then and continue to intrigue me now – Why people do what they do? What motivates their actions and reactions? What make us all “tick”? Whether it is an elderly woman’s feeling of isolation, the outsider’s anxiety when courting a new friend, the unforgotten lives of those who have passed, these deeply empathic connections are sensitive glimpses. Most recently, I am compelled to address some our our most pressing and often most contentious social and political problems within the topic of women’s issues. Issues include domestic violence and a closer look into our indigenous women and girls who are disproportionately targets for hatred, violence, kidnapping and murder. Whether I create work in a non objective or figurative abstract format, these personal glimpses open a small window through which I can hopefully increase a clearer understanding of the issue and inspire change for the benefit of all of us.
