This class is taught by Instructor Jon Salazar serves as an introduction to wheel thrown ceramics and is designed for students with no prior experience or for students who would like are fresher on the fundamentals. Students will learn the steps and processes to successfully
throw on the potter’s wheel and create functional and decorative wares. This includes clay preparation/wedging, proper posture and wheel function, centering, throwing basic cylinder/bowl forms, trimming, pulling and attaching handles, and basic glazing techniques. By the end of the course students should have a basic understanding of wheel thrown pottery fundamentals and with practice be able to produce simple forms and shapes.
All tools needed are provided, however you are more than welcome to bring your own tools if you like. Be sure to dress comfortably in clothes that you don’t mind getting a little messy and prepare to have some creative fun.
