Class Description

Playwriting is fun!  Anyone can write plays.  If you can speak, you can write dialogue.  Writing words for others to act out is exciting.  In this course, we’ll cover dialogue, characters, story structure, and more – step by easy step toward writing a short/one-act play.

This class is for everyone – from those who just want to have fun exploring playwriting to those who’ve done some scriptwriting.  (If you’re already writing a play, you can work on it in this class.)  Each week you’ll bring in a few pages you’ve worked on to be read aloud by classmates for gentle feedback.

NOTE WELL:   At the end of this course, we will stage an evening of readings by actors of our plays … for friends, family, and the public (on a December date to be determined).

If you can, come to the first class with an idea for a play … absolutely anything you want to write about – funny or serious or both.  What’s an idea?  For example, a character wanting to do or achieve some goal against some obstacle or challenge.  (If you’re stumped, don’t worry; sample ideas will be provided to get the juices flowing.)
