PALETTE KNIFE PAINTING WITH PAMELA

Wednesdays 9:30 to 4:00 (once monthly all day workshops) Studio C

December 11, 2024, January 22, 2025, February 26, 2025 and March 26, 2025

$110 member $125 non member (each session) and $25 for materials (if needed)

My workshop is for any level artist, from beginners to those already selling their
work. I begin each workshop with a demonstration to show how I begin a
painting. I will demonstrate how to handle the knife, from loading it, to the many
different kinds of strokes you can make with it. I will also discuss elements of
design and composition, color theory, color mixing, and more.
You may use one of my photos or one of my paintings—whatever I’m working
from—or so long as you clear it with me in advance—you’re welcomed to use a
photo of your own that has meaning for you. Some students who repeatedly take
my workshop—which it is designed for— come with their canvas already drawn
out and even some color down. Others might bring a brush painting that they
would like to add some magic to it by making it a palette knife painting.
After the demo you will begin your painting and I will come around and assist,
answer questions. During this time I may occasionally have everyone gather for a
teaching moment.
I generally use simple landscapes or seascapes, maybe with a bird or boat, but
pretty simple compositions. We are focusing on the larger shapes, loosening up,
and working a bit quickly to access our subconscious rather than meticulously
painting every detail. The goal in my workshop is to help you build your skills,
foster your creativity, and create a magical painting that has fun textures, is
painted from your heart, and speaks to the heart of the viewer.
I use oil but you may use oil, water soluble oil or acrylic. All levels welcome.
Members $109 / non-members $124 (if you need materials, I can supply all of
them for $25)

Pamela Ramey Tatum

Short Bio:

Pamela Ramey Tatum is a versatile, award winning artist whose works span a wide range of subjects. She is best known for her cityscape oil paintings, and her use bold colors and strokes painted with a palette knife to capture the energy and romance of urban life. Her works often feature lovers under umbrellas, evoking a sense of intimacy and connection amidst the bustling cityscape.

In addition to her cityscape paintings, Pamela also creates vibrant seascapes which blur the boundaries between abstraction and realism. She brings a sense of creative freedom and spontaneity to her art as she explores different subject matter and techniques. Although her primary medium is oil, she also creates collages—or paper paintings—using acrylic paint, purchased papers, or her own hand-painted papers to create florals, beach scenes or umbrella girls paintings. She often incorporates her own poetry to add an extra layer of meaning and emotion to these captivating pieces.

Her artistic creativity extends beyond her paintings and collages, as she recently launched a clothing line featuring her artwork. Her unique style and vibrant colors make her designs both eye-catching and stylish. Pamela is also working on a collection of her poetry and art, which will provide yet another outlet for her distinctive voice and perspective.
