Class Description:

In this hands-on workshop, students will master the fundamentals of clay preparation, including wedging, handling, and rolling flat, even tiles. While your custom tiles reach the “leather hard” stage, you will practice intricate carving techniques using specialized tools on pre-made tiles. Finally, you’ll apply these new skills to your own work to create a beautiful four-piece 4″x4” tile block. Students will return a week later for glazing.

Cynthia Baker

My art studies began in Japan as a child. I studied art at the College Art Study Abroad in Paris (affiliated with George Washington University), and at San Diego State College. I taught art as a traveling teacher in rural Maine at the elementary level. When I moved to Florida, my twenty year membership at the City of Orlando Pottery studio included basic instruction from Kim Liminokis and tile making with Angelica Pozo. I taught a tile carving class at Atlantic Center for the Arts on Riverside Drive. Anthony Bell Creations in New Smyrna Beach carried my work for years and the Artistic Hand Gallery in Oviedo still does.
