AWI is excited to have some great artists coming to the studios in 2017/2018 to teach us their techniques and methods. The instructor coming up soon is Pat Weaver on the weekend of November 15, 16, 17. That is Friday thru Sunday, from 9:30am til 4pm at our studios at 540 Barracuda Blvd.
Pat's workshop is titled “Spontaneous Watercolor or Acrylic with Pat Weaver”.
Pat is an accomplished artist whose work consistently receives high praise whether teaching painting workshops or completing fine art commissions. She is a past president and Signature Member of the Florida Watercolor Society.
In this workshop that our workshop chairperson Marylee Voegele has set up for you, Pat Weaver will explore and excite color with limited palettes. She will teach you:
• How to paint with 2 - no more than 5 - colors in any one painting
• How to mix beautiful grays to enhance your paintings
• A simplified approach to drawing, using a template for design and composition
• The importance of understanding the use of analogous color
• How to establish the temperature of a painting before painting the subject
Pat has an impressionist approach to painting, teaching direct painting (alla prima) with drawing.
Pat is asking the students to bring plenty of photo reference material. You are welcome to paint any subject in this workshop, such as landscapes, florals, animals, people, etc.
Looking at her website, I find that she does a wonderful job in creating the essence of her subject with fluid brush strokes and harmonious color choices. There is no superficial detail or nitpicking, she does capture what is important and seems to lay it down without fear. It looks like a wonderful time, with new and old friends there, learning and exploring this elusive medium of watercolor (you can also do acrylics!).
