Regina Wise, Instructor

Multi-generational Art Exhibit

A Multi-generational art exhibit of the work of students from Regina Wise’s Expressions Workshop Class will be held at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway, New Smyrna Beach, Fl 32168 from March 14 to April 14, 2008 during Library hours. This ongoing art class is held on Monday from 4:15PM to 7:15 PM at the Artists’ Workshop 115 Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach

This art show is one of New Smyrna Beach’s most captivating shows because it highlights the importance of art at each stage of human development. This inaugural show will feature works by children as young as 9 years-of-age and works by our more mature adult artists.

When I was asked to teach a Teen group at the Artist’s Workshop, I was excited to get it started. It wasn’t long before I had adults asking to join the class to learn the basics of drawing and painting, etc. Now we have a Multi-generational group with artists from 9 to 90. It is a unique and exciting mix of artists of all ages. Everyone is diving into their imagination, developing their artist eyes, and encouraging each other with artistic aspirations. I am so pleased with the success of all my students. This show draws attention to the importance of arts education and creative expression for students of all ages.

In September of 2007, I was asked to teach a teen class at the Artists’ Workshop. I was excited to get it started and before long, I had adults asking to join the class to learn the basics of drawing and painting etc.

Now we have a Multi-generational group of artists from the ages of 9 to 90ish. It is a unique and exciting mix of artists of all ages. Everyone is diving into their imagination, developing their artist eyes, and encouraging each other with artistic aspirations. I am so pleased with the success of all my students. This show draws attention to the importance of arts education and creative expression for students of all ages.

In the workshop, everyone learns the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and an extended lesson in Color Theory and Techniques of Watercolor. From there everyone learns how to do contour line drawing and begins to develop an individual style. As the artists’ progress, they are exposed to many different mediums and decide what medium they want to work in, pencil drawing, painting in watercolor or acrylic, or pastel drawing.

Each class you will find artists working in different mediums. We have ventured into Japanese Ink Painting and Chinese Calligraphy, still life and landscape painting, shaving cream and acrylic experimental painting, painting with strips of cardboard, some students have even ventured into the realm of printmaking.

We have many seasoned artists and some of whom were considered beginners when they started class in the fall. I would say that these artists have moved out of the beginner class and are fulfilling their dreams and successfully creating art.

Future plans are to continue the Workshop through spring and summer with

Classes in Drawing, Pen & Ink drawing, Pastels, Watercolor, Acrylic Painting, Bookmaking, paper marbling, and relief printmaking.
